Medication
Here is a list of commonly prescribed medication for ear conditions. Your pet may have been prescribed one or more of these.
Dermotic is a medicated ear drop used to treat ear infections in dogs, particularly those caused by bacteria or yeast. It contains anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antibacterial properties to reduce pain, swelling, and infection.
2. Common side effects to watch for:
Mild redness or irritation in the ear. Temporary hearing loss or balance issues in rare cases, especially in older dogs or those with a ruptured eardrum. Allergic reactions (e.g., increased redness, itching, or swelling).
3. Contraindications:
Do not use if your pet has a ruptured eardrum, as this medication can cause damage. oAvoid use if your pet has a known hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the ingredients in Dermotic.
Similar to Dermotic as described above. At times, we may prescribe Easotic over Dermotic as it has a stronger antibiotic. A stronger antibiotic is sometimes required if we see Rods when we look at your pets ear sample under the microscope.
Apoquel is used to manage itching and inflammation caused by allergic skin conditions, such as atopic dermatitis and environmental or food allergies.
Prednisolone is a corticosteroid used to treat inflammation and swelling within the ear canal. It may also be helpful for pets suffering from skin allergies.
