How to train my Puppy? Through Puppy School Classes
Our two Kylie's, our practice manager and nurse are now running Puppy Prep Classes at all Clinics.
The importance of Puppy School
Did you know that your puppy started to learn by the age of 2 weeks? What this means is that by the time you get your puppy home he or she may have already developed some bad habists!
Reasearch has shown that you can make or break a puppy from the age of 6 weeks to 18 weeks of age. Scary! Unfortunatley, a lot of people wait until their puppy has severe social problems like barking, jumping up fear or strangers, digging and biting before they start training or seek professional help. It is crucial that you train your pup how to fit into our society between these ages.
It is simply unfair,m to expect your pup to know your house rules immediately, in puppy school we will teach you how to teach your pup the correct place to urinate, the correct things to chew, the correct times to bark, the correct way to greet guest and the difference between play time and time to settle down and be quiet etc etc. Don't wait for him to get it wrong then punish him.
Puppy School will teach your pup how to behave around other dogs. Socialization is crucial even if you have another dog at home. Pups who have not been solialized grow up to fear other dogs and show aggression towards them. These dogs then cannot be taken out to the park or for a walk because they don't get along with other dogs. These little things mean the world to your dog and puppy school is where to start to teach him to love playing with strange dogs so you can both enjoy these outings together. A dog can only be as good as thier trainer!
Kylie M holds classes at our Coomera Practice and Currumbin Practices on a Monday and Wednesday night and has been training pups for over 6 years, has completed professional training course (Provet Learning Maximising your puppy program) for puppy school instructors, and has been veterinary nursing for 7 years, and her classes are often praised by both participants and adult dog trainers.
Kylie B holds classes at our Coomera and Ormeau Practice on a Monday or Tuesday night and has completed professional training course (Provet Learning Maximising your puppy program) for puppy school instructors and has been trained by Kylie M, she has been nursing for almost 2 years and her classes are a huge success.
Be sure when you are choosing a puppy school that the trainer is experienced. Our Kylie's are very experienced in both training and pet health. Also make sure that your trainer requires you to provide a copy of your puppy's health certifcate and vacccination, this is paramount for your pups safety and any great trainer won't put your pup's health at risk, we require all vaccination certificates be sighted prior to class beginning. If you wish to pop into one of our classes to preview before you book you are more then welcome, just contact the nurse and clinic you wish to preview and arrange it with them.
